Admiralenbuurt

The Admiralenbuurt ( Admiral District) has existed since the 1920s and since 2010 a district in the district of West Amsterdam, North Holland province.

History

In the 1920s, the district was created as a residential district of the then existing "Plan West", which was intended to the city spread in the former town of Sloten. Since May 2010 a part of Sloten, with the new classification of the municipalities of Amsterdam, to the western municipality of Amsterdam. Between 1990 and 2010, the Admiralenbuurt belonged to the district of De Baarsjes. In 1924, the " site name " ( German: Residential area ) named after the Dutch admirals. Many street names are named after them. The main commercial street or the Jan van Evertsenstraat was renovated in 2005 and 2012.

Across the district runs the Admiralengracht (former name: " Molensloot "). At the end of the Erasmus canal park is located. Center of the Admiralenbuurt is the place Mercatorplein, named after the philosopher and cartographer Gerardus Mercator. 1925 " Plein " (square) was designed by the Dutch architect HP Berlage applied. On Mercatorplein keep the trams Nos. 7 and 13, the drive towards No.7: Kinkerbrug - Witte de Withstraat JAN - Evertsenstraat - Mercatorplein - Hoofdweg - Bos en Lommerplein and No.13: Wiegbrug - Admiraal de Ruijterweg JAN - Evertsenstraat - Mercatorplein JAN - Evertsenstraat.
