Adobe Photoshop Lightroom

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a software for managing, optimizing and conversion of digital photos, in particular raw data that are generated, among other things of digital single-lens reflex ( DSLR) cameras and some compact cameras. In version 3 the first time, videos were supported. Lightroom is available (from Windows 7) for the operating systems Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows. Preferably, the software is aimed at professional photographers and dedicated amateurs, and offers them for extensive areas of work tools - ranging from managing large image file resources and their processing, to its presentation to screen, printer and the internet.

Structure of the software

The software Lightroom is divided into seven modules:

  • Library: Contains an overview display of the images in the grid or full -screen mode. Furthermore, an import from the camera and other storage media and Export is possible. For easy administration, it offers, among other various functions for tagging ( IPTC), review, highlight, group, filter, and the organization into collections.
  • Developing: Provides a wide range of basic functions to influence of color temperature, tonal range, gradation, a subtle selective color correction and toning of lights and shadows. There are also functions for cropping and rotating, de-noising and sharpening of images, to mention the most important. Since version 2 beyond are possibilities of selective image correction, that is, application of corrections and improvements to portions of an image are available.
  • Map: A module for geo-referencing of images. The photos can be assigned via drag & drop geo-information.
  • Book: Contains functions for creating photo books, which can then be ordered from the supplier " Blurb " or output as JPEG or PDF files.
  • Slide: Allows you to create a slideshow for the presentation of images on the monitor, second monitor or projector. A presentation can also be output as a PDF file.
  • Print: Provides extensive possibilities for arrangement of images on the page, even in different sizes. Generation of contact sheets, photo collections and control of fine art printers. Rather than direct printer control, a JPEG file can be generated. Direct generation of a PDF file is from version 2.0, before this can be achieved via a PDF printer driver.
  • Web: Allows you to easily create a Web presentation of the images as HTML or Flash Gallery by pre-designed templates. Own templates can be uploaded on the basis of pre-made images directly from Lightroom via FTP to a ( existing ) web space. Since Lightroom 3.0 also publishing to Facebook, Flickr and other social networks is possible.

Supported file formats

Lightroom supports data import the image formats JPG, PSD, TIFF, and developed by Adobe itself open raw data format Digital Negative, DNG shortly. In addition, the internal development module allows you to import the native raw formats of the different camera manufacturers such as Canon Raw (*. Crw, *. Cr2 ), Pentax Raw ( *. Pef ) or Nikon Raw ( *. Nef ).

On importing images, the photographer also are a variety of sorting and renaming classifications such as defining of keywords (metadata ) is available.

Special

The program works like any raw converter, non-destructive, that is, it is never the original file changed, but any changes will be stored separately from the original file in a database or an additional XMP Metafile ( sidecar file ). Optionally, the XMP can be written in the files. It was only during the conversion ( export) in JPEG or TIFF for the changes to take effect. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom uses technology from the now-defunct Raw program RawShooter the Danish company Pixmantec. Adobe Systems has acquired the Danish software house on 26 June 2006.

The software can also be used via the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription-based. The current version 5 was first released on June 9, 2013.
