Adolf Fredrik Church

The Church of Adolf Fredrik ( Adolf Fredrik's Sister kyrka ) is a church building in the district of Norrmalm Stockholm, Sweden. It was built in 1768-1774 by the architect Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz.

History

The groundbreaking ceremony was conducted by King Adolf Frederick personally. The ceremonial inauguration on November 28, 1774 next to the king of Bishop Dr. Daniel Herweghr, the Magister Wykman, the court conductor Francesco Uttini and the priest Dr. Nils Rensen and Jacob Nymansson were the Duke of Södermanland (later Charles XIII. ), Present. The latter gave the opening sermon.

In front of the church was located since 1674 a wooden chapel, which was dedicated to Saint Olav and was still used during the construction period, as the church was initially built around the chapel.

The present church is decorated in classical style, with details in the Rococo. She has the outline of a equilateral cross and is crowned by a tower-like structure with windows. For the altar, representing the resurrection of Jesus, Johan Tobias Sergel was responsible. The interior of the church was remodeled 1893-1895 under the direction of Agi Lidegren. A majority of original character disappeared, as stucco and reliefs have been added.

The organ of Adolf Fridrich Church has 45 registers on three manuals and pedal. The play and Registertrakturen are mechanical.
