Adolf Hofer (politician)

Adolf Hofer ( born August 17, 1868 in Plein Lauken, East Prussia, † September 3, 1935 in Berlin) was a Prussian landowner ( Junker ) and Social Democratic politician.

Life and work

The father of Hofer was Rittergutsbesitzer in Skaisgirren ( Bolschakowo, Kaliningrad Oblast ). Hofer attended high school and went off with the Abitur. In 1889, he joined the SPD. Since 1893, Hofer was the owner of the parental estate. He farmed there until its sale in 1913 itself in the following years Hofer lived as a privateer on the estate of his wife in Plein Lauken.

Since 1898, he has on several occasions unsuccessfully running for the Reichstag. In 1913 he became a member of the Prussian Landtag. From the Socialist Group, he was expelled in 1917 because of its proximity to the USPD. In this party, he was a member of the central executive committee. In addition to Otto Braun for the SPD Hofer was for the USPD until January 4, 1919 Head of the Department of Agriculture in the Prussian Council of People's Representatives.

With parts of the USPD Hofer returned back to the 1922 SPD. From 1923 he was district administrator in the county Fischhausen (now Primorsk, Kaliningrad ) in East Prussia and since 1926 a member of the provincial parliament of East Prussia. In 1931 he went into retirement.
