Adolf von Sonnenthal

Adolf ( since 1881, ) Sun Valley ( born December 21, 1834 in Pest, † April 4, 1909 in Prague) was an Austrian actor. He was considered the best actor in conversation salon comedies, but has been extremely successful as a hero and a character actor.

Life

Adolf sun valley had to take tailoring as a result of sudden impoverishment of his parents, turned later, following his passion and encouraged by the actor Bogumil Dawison and reasonably prepared, to the stage and made his debut in 1851 in Timisoara ( Timisoara ) as " Phoebus de Chateaupers " in the drama The Hunchback of Notre Dame ( Charlotte Birch -Pfeiffer ). In 1852 he went to Sibiu, from here in 1854 to Graz and in winter 1855-1856 to Königsberg, where he performed with such success that Heinrich Laube offered him an engagement at the Vienna Burgtheater.

There was sun valley on May 18, 1856 " Mortimer " in The Orphan of Lowood ( Charlotte Birch -Pfeiffer ) debut and was engaged after three years for life. Under the guidance and support of Heinrich Laube sun valley rose to become one of the most important German actor of his time. 1881, on the occasion of his 25-year service anniversary, proclaimed Emperor Franz Joseph sun valley Knight of the Order of the Iron Crown, which his collection was linked to the hereditary Austrian nobility. He was in 1884 appointed Supreme Director and acted since the departure of the Director of Adolf Wilbrandt (June 1887) by the end of 1888 as artistic director of the theater. Sun valley real strength lay in drama and in comedy; as a performer so-called Salon roles he took an undisputed first place.

From his versatile repertoire are, inter alia, the lead roles in Romeo and Juliet and Henry IV by William Shakespeare, Faust. A tragedy. and Clavigo by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Nathan the Wise by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing to name.

But also in the roles of " Raoul Gérard " (From the comic opera ), " Prince Lübbenau " (From the Society, Edward of Farmer Field ), "king" (Esther, Jean Racine ), "Fox " ( Pitt and Fox, Rudolf von Gottschall ), " Marcel de Prel " (Wild fire, Friedrich Halm ) and Uriel Acosta (Karl Gutzkow ) could shine sun valley.

Less success had gone to his translations of French plays, such as The Marquis of Villemer ( George Sand ).

At the age of 74 years " Hotel to the Blue Star" the actor Adolf of sun valley died on April 4, 1909 in the evening in Prague from a stroke.

His tomb is located in the cemetery of Vienna Dobling (Group Isr 1/44 ). In 1920 in Vienna Ottakring ( 16th district ) was named the sun Thalgasse after him.

Sun valley grandnephew was the conductor Kurt Adler.
