Adolf William, Duke of Saxe-Eisenach

Adolf Wilhelm ( born May 15, 1632 Weimar, † November 21, 1668 in Eisenach ) was Duke of Saxe- Eisenach.

Life

Adolf Wilhelm was a son of Duke Wilhelm IV of Saxe- Weimar and Eleonore Dorothea his wife, née Princess of Anhalt. Already in his nineteenth year, he traveled to foreign countries, notably France, then took in 1656 at the King Charles X Gustav of Sweden, who was then at war with Poland, military service as a colonel, and was characterized by courage and bravery. He stumbled at a meeting on Funen in Imperial captivity, from which he was liberated by exchange against an imperial colonel. When he had traveled in 1661 back to Sweden, the King Karl Gustav gave him the post of major general of infantry with a salary of 2000 thalers.

After his father's death (1662 ) announced Adolf Wilhelm with his three brothers Johann Ernst, Johann Georg and Bernhard paternal countries, on which occasion he received the castle, office and town of Eisenach, Office Gerstungen and house Breitenbach, Office of Lichtenberg and the city Ostheim while the William castle, the great Welsh garden, the residence Weimar, the home Wartburg, the Zillbach and the accompanying wood, agriculture and drink tax that hall, Ilmen and Werra rafts and other all four brothers jointly remained. The city of Eisenach was his residence, Zacharias Prueschenck of Lindenhofen, his privy councilor, country director and superintendent at Eisenach.

Under the company name The Edele he was accepted as a member of the literary Fruitbearing society.

In 1663, Adolf Wilhelm married to Princess Maria Elisabeth ( 1638-1687 ), daughter of Duke August of Brunswick. He became the father of her five sons, four of whom their birth not long survived and the last, who was born after his death, at the age of three years, also died. Adolf Wilhelm part of the country fell to his three brothers. He died on November 21, 1668 in Eisenach. His widow married in 1676 Duke Albert of Saxe-Coburg and died only 1687th
