Adolph Deutsch

Adolph German ( born October 20, 1897 in London, † January 1, 1980 in Palm Desert, California ) was a British- American composer of symphonic jazz and film music.

Life

Adolph German - who is often referred to incorrectly as Germans or Austrians, or even as Symphatisant of Adolf Hitler because of his name - lived the first 13 years of his life in England, where he at the age of five years was given piano lessons. 1905, the eight-year old was admitted to the Royal Academy of Music. Deutsch's family emigrated in 1910 to the United States, where it received U.S. citizenship in 1920.

German, who had been a fan of the conductor Thomas Beecham and Arturo Toscanini, came over Paul Whiteman with the music style jazz in touch, and worked in the 1920s as a composer for his radio and concert programs. In the 1930s he changed the genre, and was responsible as an orchestrator for some today known musicals, including George Gershwin's Pardon my English and Irving Berlin Thousand Cher.

The Hollywood producer Mervyn LeRoy dedicated German in 1937 by Warner Bros. and helped the composer in the same year his first film composition - the Drama They Will not Forget. German first remained at Warner Bros. until 1946 and wrote the film scores for over 50 feature films. After a two-year foray into the world of radio, where he remained until 1947, hosted by Hedda Hopper Show This Is Hollywood accompanied musically by 1946, took German in 1948 a contract with MGM true. German got, however, after only a few jobs that although his penultimate film, Some Like It Hot, filmed in 1959 by director Billy Wilder, probably still his most famous soundtrack was. He died on New Year's Day 1980 at the age of 82 of heart failure.
