Adolph, Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld

Adolf Philipp of Hesse- Thal- Barchfeld ( born June 29, 1743 Ypres, † July 17, 1803 in Barchfeld ) was Landgrave of Hesse - Philippsthal - Barchfeld out of the house of Hesse.

Life

Adolf was a son of the Landgrave William of Hesse - Philippsthal - Barchfeld (1692-1761) from his marriage to Charlotte Wilhelmine (1704-1766), daughter of Prince Lebrecht of Anhalt- Bernburg - Hoym. Adolf succeeded his childless brother Friedrich 1777 Landgrave of Hesse - Philippsthal - Barchfeld.

He began his career in the service of Hesse- Kassel. Then in the Dutch service where he later colonel in the 3rd Infantry Regiment of Orange- Nassau. 1773 he joined the Prussian military service and became chief in Fusilier Regiment No. 55, where he gained the favor of Frederick II and was appointed on January 16, 1777 to Major General. Landgrave Adolf fought in the Bavarian War of Succession and attacked by General Wurmser, came in 1779 Habelschwerdt in the Austrian captivity. In 1780 he resigned and retired to Barchfeld.

He acquired the estate in 1794 Nesselröden and sold three years later the estate Wehra at the Kassel upper Rentkammer for 24,000 dollars.

Progeny

Landgrave Adolf married on October 18, 1781 in Meiningen, Princess Louise ( 1752-1805 ), daughter of Duke Anton Ulrich von Sachsen -Meiningen from his marriage to Charlotte Amalie of Hesse- Philippsthal. With her he had the following children:
