Adolphe Blanc

Adolphe Blanc ( * June 24, 1828 in Manosque, † May 1885 in Paris) was a French violinist and composer.

Blanc, who attracted attention as a child as a gifted violinist, began at the age of thirteen, a violin education at the Conservatoire de Paris. He also studied composition under Fromental Halévy Jacques. After completing his studies he was engaged by Léon Carvalho 1855 as the orchestra conductor at the Théâtre Lyrique. Since 1860 he was a violinist of the Concert Association of the Conservatoire de Paris.

Besides his work as an orchestral musician Blanc was active as a composer, which he mainly devoted himself to chamber music. It originated among other string trios, quartets and quintets, fifteen piano trios, piano quartets and quintets. 1862 awarded him the Académie des Beaux -Arts in the Prix Chartier.

His compositions have long been dismissed as " upscale salon music " and rediscovered only recently. His most famous work is now the Septet in E major for Winds and Strings (Op. 40 ), which have several ensemble 's repertoire and of the several recordings exist.
