Adolphe Willette

Adolphe Willette Adolphe -Léon Willette actually, ( born July 31, 1857 in Châlons -sur -Marne département Marne, † February 4, 1926 in Paris) was a French illustrator, cartoonist and painter.

Life

Willette was a son of the aide- de-camp of Marshal François- Achille Bazine. His first art lessons learned Willette in his hometown. At 18, he came to Paris in 1875 at the École des Beaux Arts ( EBA) and was, amongst others, Student of Alexandre Cabanel.

After four years he left the EBA and began to draw for various newspapers and magazines. As a cartoonist, he was regularly seen in the daily press; his work there he signed with the pseudonyms " Bebe ", " cémoi ", " Loison ," " Nox " and " Pierrot ".

In 1920 he founded, together with Jean -Louis Forain, Maurice Neumont and Francisque Poulbot the République de Montmartre. Until 14 August 1923, he led the RdM as its president.

With not quite 69 years Adolphe Willette died in Paris and was in the Cimetière de Montmartre his final resting place.
