Adolphus Frederick III, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz

. Adolf Friedrich III, Duke of Mecklenburg [- Strelitz ] (* June 7, 1686, † December 11, 1752 ) was reigning Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz part of the country.

Life

He was the eldest son of Duke Adolf Friedrich II from his first marriage to Marie, daughter of the Duke Gustav Adolf of Mecklenburg- Güstrow.

After the death of his father he took over in 1708 the regency in the country part of Mecklenburg -Strelitz. As at October 24, 1712 burned down the old Strelitzer residential palace and a reconstruction of the old location was impossible, he was from 1726 to 1731 to build a new castle in ganglia corner. For practical reasons, was founded by him next on May 20, 1733 a settlement that later residence of Neustrelitz. In 1748 he arranged with Duke Christian Ludwig II, the ruler of part of the country Schwerin, in a secret treaty, the resolution of the Mecklenburg total state. His nephew, Duke Adolf Friedrich IV, closed in consequence then in 1755 with the estates of the country's basic statutory hereditary settlement from. Adolf Friedrich III. married on April 16, 1709 in Reinfeld Dorothea Sophie ( * December 4, 1692, † April 29, 1765 ), the daughter of Johann Adolf of Holstein- Plön. From this marriage two daughters were born:

  • Marie Sophie ( born May 5, 1710 † February 21, 1728 ), in 1719 appointed abbess in Rühn monastery, but this office has probably never exercised.
  • Magdalene Christiane (* July 21, 1711; † January 27, 1713 )

Since Adolf Friedrich III. had no son, his nephew Adolf Friedrich IV, son of Prince Karl ( Friedrich Ludwig ), his successor on the throne was Strelitzschen by applicable law house.
