Adolphus Peter Nelson

Adolphus Peter Nelson ( * March 28, 1872 in Alexandria, Douglas County, Minnesota; † August 21, 1927 in Grantsburg, Wisconsin ) was an American politician. Between 1918 and 1923 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Adolphus Nelson attended the common schools and then studied until 1897 at Hamline University in Saint Paul. In the year 1897 he moved to Grantsburg, Wisconsin, where he was active in the banking industry. Between 1906 and 1920, Nelson was a board member of the University of Wisconsin; Since 1916 to 1920, he was its chairman. From 1910 to 1916, he also chaired the school board of Grantsburg. In the years 1914 to 1916 he was mayor of this place. From 1914 to 1918 he also served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Hamline University.

Politically, Nelson member of the Republican Party. Following the resignation of Mr Irvine Lenroot, who had been elected to the U.S. Senate, he was at the due election for the eleventh seat of Wisconsin as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on 5 November 1918. After two re- elections he could remain until March 3, 1923 Congress. Right at the beginning of his term of office ended the First World War. During his time as a congressman of the 18th and the 19th Amendment to the Constitution were adopted.

1922 Adolphus Nelson was not nominated by his party for re-election. In the following years until his death on 21 August 1927, he worked in Grantsburg again in the banking industry.
