ADONIS (software)

The business process management tool ADONIS is a community based on the developed at the University of Vienna BPMS paradigm software, which provides in particular the functionalities and modeling method available to collect business processes, model, analyze, simulate, evaluate, and can be documented. It is developed and marketed by Dimitris Karagiannis founded BOC Group, headquartered in Vienna.

Development

ADONIS was from the group BPMS (Business Process Management System ) developed in 1995 by the Institute for computer science and business computer science at the University of Vienna. From this group, the company BOC Information Technologies Consulting AG emerged as a spin-off; ADONIS was the first product. Since the first version of ADONIS has continually evolved. The current version is ADONIS 5.0, released in January 2012.

In addition to the commercial version of ADONIS was opened in January 2008, the ADONIS Community Edition, since April 2011, the ADONIS Community Edition 2.0 and currently the ADONIS: Community Edition 3.0 as freeware.

Also since 2008, there is the ADONIS Process Portal, which enables role-based online access to the ADONIS database and example scenarios such as online publishing and editing, supports permission of processes and metrics management.

Functions

ADONIS is used particularly for business process optimization. The product is also suitable for other applications. Examples are: quality management, organization management, controlling (eg process cost analysis ), human resource management, risk management and process-based application development. This flexibility is achieved by the provision of adaptation options ( meta-modeling, Add-on development).

Business process management tools of the first generation usually represent one or more solid modeling methods available that can be changed is limited. The method-independent tool ADONIS can be configured both in terms of the modeling technique (s ) as well as in relation to the modellauswertenden functionality without programming. This flexibility allows methods for different application scenarios.

ADONIS contains the components collection ( HOMER, an Excel-based survey component ), modeling, analysis, import / export, simulation, evaluation and documentation.

  • The modeling component enables the design and modification of models using a graphical editor (Model Editor). In addition, there is also the possibility of a tabular modeling.
  • Besides the graphical modeling is additionally the survey component HOMER available, which is used to support data collection for the collection of process-relevant information.
  • The analysis component provides static queries on all model content. It can relationship tables and reports are created customized queries and defined.
  • With the simulation component changes to the business processes and the organizational structure can be made and their effects are investigated. For this purpose, four simulation algorithms are offered.
  • The evaluation component provides mechanisms both for the evaluation of the setpoint models as well as real process.
  • Using the Documentation Toolkit can be generated as an RTF (for Word ) or HTML files from ADONIS models in organizational manuals and process documentation. This makes it possible to distribute the model content including graphic representation on the intranet.
  • Existing models and model groups can be exported and imported. Here, find the file formats XML and ADL (Adonis Definition Language ) use.

Dissemination

The proliferation of ADONIS worldwide amounts to 16,000 user licenses, which are in Germany about 11,000 licenses. ADONIS is used, for example, of the Gotha insurance, Hamburger Sparkasse, Deutsche Bank, the Ministry of Finance of Brandenburg and DHL Express.
