Adir Adası, formerly Lim (Armenian Լիմ կղզի Lim kghzi ) is an island in Lake Van in eastern Turkey. During the genocide of the Armenians in 1915, up to 12,000 Armenian women and children fled within three days on the island, a few dozen men hid themselves from the Hamidieh regiments. They starved to death before help arrives.
The Armenian Apostolic St. George's Monastery ( Sourp Kevork ) was built in 1305 and 1621 and in 1766 expanded, there is currently only in ruins. The island also contains a cemetery of Armenian Chatschkars.
