Adranus

Adranos (Greek Ἀδρανός ) is an ancient regional deity in parts of Sicily, who was especially venerated in Adranon. He is according to one version of the myth of the father of Palici.

In the city there was a regional cult center where, according to Diodorus Dogs victims were executed. Claudius Aelianus reported that there up to a thousand dogs were kept, which during the day welcomed the visitors and have passed the drunks home at night. Poor visitors had been torn from them.

The image of his head is found on a coin of Mamertines that was minted 275-250 BC. on the reverse is shown a dog.
