Adrian Knup

Adrian Knup ( born July 2, 1968 in Liestal ) is a retired Swiss football player. He is the father of a son from his first marriage and two girls from his present partnership. He is the founder and owner of " Adrian Knup Consulting", which provides services in the sports and event sector. Knup is responsible for the operation of gambling and a member of the Technical Committee on the Board of FC Basel.

The striker, who often wore the number 9, characterized above all by his heading ability. He completed 49 games for the Swiss national football team, scoring 26 goals. Above all, its doors remain at the World Cup finals in the USA in 1994 in memory when he scored twice in a 4-1 in Switzerland against Romania in the first round.

He began his career at FC Basel. He had his breakthrough at FC Luzern, he with two goals in the final shot to the Cup victory shortly before his move to Stuttgart. However, he missed the crucial relegation round match on a penalty kick, Lucerne increased it from the NLB.

In 1991 he was, standing with FC Luzern, chosen by the newspaper sports for Swiss Footballer of the Year.

Adrian played Knup 1992-1994 VfB Stuttgart and scored 20 goals in that time. He then moved to Karlsruher SC, where he obtained in two years time 11 goals. In 1996, he lost with the Karlsruher SC the final of the DFB Cup against Kaiserslautern 0:1.

After a stint at Galatasaray, he ended his career in Switzerland with FC Basel. He then worked in the private sector and worked as co- commentator for broadcasts of matches, the Swiss Championship.

On 25 May 2007 he was appointed by the Swiss Football Association as the new team manager of the Swiss national football team. After the 2008 European Football Championship his mandate expired and was not renewed.
