Adrian is a city in Bates County, Missouri. It is located 80 km south of Kansas City. In 2000, Adrian had 1780 inhabitants.

History

In the 1840s, a well-known today as the Crescent Hill area developed two miles south of the border of Bates County. The growth of this settlement ended when the railway line of the Missouri Pacific Railroad was built through the area. The terrain in the direction of the place was too steep for this project and therefore a new site was created in 1880 about three miles south. To this end, bought a Town Company on 80 acres of land and named the place Adrian, after the son of an inspector of the railway company. The land was sold to be perching prospects and it incurred residential and commercial buildings. In 1883 the town had 350 inhabitants. The first school in town was built in 1892.
