Adrie Koster

Adrianus Cornelis " Adrie " Koster ( born November 18, 1954 in Zierikzee ) is a former Dutch football player and current coach.

Playing career

As an active footballer Adrie Koster played at Roda JC Kerkrade and PSV Eindhoven. In total he played there almost 100 Eredivisie games. On 2 October 1982, he finished already with 27 years of his professional career. At the World Championship 1980 he was indeed the squad, but did not in all three group games used.

National

During his time at Kerkrade Koster graduated in 1978, three international matches for the Dutch national football team. His first on 20 September against Iceland and its last on December 20 against Germany.

Coaching career

Three years after the end of his active playing career started Adrie Koster in coaching. First stop was the second division side FC Eindhoven, where he worked as an assistant coach one year. Then he went to the first division side Willem II Tilburg. There he was again four years assistant coach, before taking over as coach in 1990 itself, but only for one year. 1991 Koster went to Roda JC Kerkrade, for which he was already active as a player. Two years later he was replaced as head coach Huub Stevens from Koster and rejoined the transition to the second division in order to hire Helmond Sport. Until 1997, he trained with TOP Oss yet another club, before moving to Excelsior Rotterdam. There Koster had his longest tenure in 2002 and managed to move up to the Premier Division. However, the class could not be maintained and Koster was sacked as coach. The following season he made it to the VVV Venlo in the play-offs, but could not lead to the first division the club. Next stop was the RKC Waalwijk where Koster was released after a one-year commitment due to lack of success.

In 2007, he became the youth coach in the legendary youth academy of Ajax Amsterdam. As the former head coach of the first team, Henk ten Cate, moved to Chelsea, Koster was appointed as coach. From the 2008/ 09 season, he was replaced by the new Ajax coach Marco van Basten and only coached the second team of the club. From the season 2009/10 he became the new head coach of the Belgian tradition FC Bruges. On October 30, 2011, he was released after a series of four successive defeats of his duties in Bruges. His successor was the German coach Christoph Daum. In summer 2012, Koster took over the fate of the Belgian first division side Beerschot AC, but was discharged in November of the same year.
