Adrien Dollfus

Adrien Dollfus Frédéric Jules ( born March 21, 1858 in Mulhouse -Dornach, Alsace, † 19 November 1921 in Paris) was a French zoologist. His research interests were crustaceans and trilobites.

Life and work

Adrien Dollfus was the grandson of the Alsatian factory owner Jean Dollfus (1800-1887) and the cousin of parasitologists Robert Ferdinand -Philippe Dollfus ( 1887-1976 ). After his studies and obtained the degree of Bachelor of Science, he devoted himself to the study of crustaceans (especially woodlice ) and trilobites. In 1870, he founded the publication La Feuille des jeunes natura listes. In 1888 he married Anna in Paris Noémie Schlumberger. From this marriage three children were born. In 1876 he became a member of the Société zoologique de France and from 1912 to 1913 he was president of that company.

Dollfus bequeathed his collections of crustaceans and trilobites, which he brought, among others, of the Hawaiian Islands, from Africa or Sicily, the Museum of Elbeuf.

One of the first descriptions of scientific Dollfus include several isopod species, including Stenasellus, Stenociscus, Haedropleura, Odostomella, Mitrolumna, Trophonopsis, Muricopsis, Faucheria, Columbellopsis, Mesarmadillo, Synarmadillo, Ambounia and Caecosphaeroma.
