Adrienne von Speyr

Adrienne von Speyr ( born September 20, 1902 in La Chaux -de-Fonds, † September 18, 1967 in Basel) was Swiss physician, mystic and spiritual writer.

In her first marriage she was married to Emil Dürr (1883-1934), after whose death she married in 1935, his successor as professor of history at the University of Basel, Werner Kaegi.

Born into a Protestant family, she converted to Catholicism and was baptized by Balthasar sub conditione on November 1, 1940 by Hans Urs, with whom she later founded the Community of St. John and his theological work, they helped to shape decisively from 1940.

Adrienne von Speyr dictated most of their works; their dictations were then edited by Hans Urs von Balthasar for the publication. All writings by Adrienne Speyrs are available at the Johannes Verlag Einsiedeln. In addition to numerous Bible commentaries, inter alia, a four-volume meditation on the Gospel of John, and works on theological and spiritual questions is before the mystic in the strict sense work in the so-called discount books.
