Adscita is a genus of butterflies of the family of burnet ( Zygaenidae ).

Features

Head and thorax, often the abdomen and the front upper wing surface shimmer green or blue and shining almost metallic. The forewings are narrow triangular or narrow ovate. The hind wings are more or less rectangular. The females are usually slightly smaller than the males, sometimes they are the same size and have a similar wing shape. The antennae of the males are twice combed, club-shaped and have a blunt rounded tip. The antennae of the females are twice sägeförmig or almost filiform. You are distally thickened slightly or strongly clavate. The probe tip is blunt. In the male the uncus is heavily sclerotized and distinctive. The distal Valven have a triangular translucent region. In females, the Präbursa is either present or absent.

Dissemination

The representatives of the genus Adscita are mainly located in the Western Palearctic.

Biology

The caterpillars of all species evolve at Knöterichgewächsen ( Polygonaceae ), Zistrosengewächsen ( Cistaceae ) and cranesbill family ( Geraniaceae ). The caterpillars of all species are leaf miners, at least in the early stages. All species produce only one generation per year.

The genus Adscita consists of two subgenera together with 26 species. 14 of which are represented in the Westpaläartkis, these are listed in the following table.
