Adularescence

As adularescence (verb: adularisation ) the bluish-white, sheet-like shimmer is called, which mainly used in the gemstone variety of orthoclase ( adularia ), the moonstone so-called, occurs. The light reflections appear when moving the stone to pass over its surface, and are accented by the cabochon cut especially.

The adularisation generated by the lamellar structure of the lunar rock crystal, which forces the incident light beams to interfere, that is, depending on the position due to the superposition to the mutual strengthening or weakening.
