Advance Auto 500

Winn -Dixie 500 (1985-1986)

Winston Classic (1987-1992)

The Advance Auto 500 was a car race in the NASCAR Busch Series at the Martinsville Speedway, which was fought from 1982 to 1994. It was traditionally the last of the two or three races at this track.

History

The first edition of the race was held on October 31, 1982 rather than Cardinal 250 and went over a race distance of 250 laps, or 131.2 miles. As the first driver Butch Lindley enlisted in the list of winners. In the 1983 season, Sam Ard as crossed the finish line first, who had previously won the Miller Time 250 and the Autumn 150 this season on this track - it was his fifth victory in the hitherto six races held the Busch Series in Martinsville. 1984 failed to match these successes and Morgan Shepherd won the race Ard. For the 1985 season the Cardinal 250 was renamed the Winn -Dixie 500 and shortened the race distance on 200 laps or 105.2 miles. First winner under this new name was Tommy Ellis, in the 1986 season won Brett Bodine. From the season 1987, the event was held under the name of Winston Classic, but at the race distance changed nothing. Winner this year was Jimmy Hensley, Harry Gant a year later won the race in 1989 and LD Ottinger. After Steve Grissom Winston Classic won in 1990, won in 1991 for the second time Harry Gant. Last winner of the race under that name in 1992 Bobby Labonte. For the 1993 season the race at Advance Auto Parts 500 was renamed and extended to 300 laps, or 157.8 miles. Winner of the first edition was Chuck Bown. On October 16, 1994, the race was last played, last winner was Kenny Wallace.
