Advanced Open Water Diver

Advanced Open Water Diver (abbreviated AOWD, German: , advanced open water diver ' ) is the name of a certification card in the PADI and SSI training system. Prerequisite for these devices diver training is the Open Water Diver Course. The AOWD Brevet entitled to dive to depths up to 30 meters. There are dive sites that can be visited only with a AOWD certification card or higher. After AOWD a diver certification card can deepen his knowledge in the Rescue Diver Course. In German-speaking the English name is used exclusively.

Dissemination and standardization

PADI and SSI call the Course Advanced Open Water Diver. CMAS does not have this level of education. Parts of the AOWD course are included in a star course, others in two star price. Some CMAS associations such as IAC, however, offer their own AOWD courses. These take two parts of the star formation in advance, thus simplifying the Learning Path two star diver. SSI sees his Advanced Open Water Diver as equivalent to the CMAS ** diver. NAUI 's called AOWD Advanced Scuba Diver certification card. BSAC, in turn, calls it Sport Diver. In contrast to the Open Water Diver or Divemaster Certification Fee is the Advanced Open Water Diver certification is not standardized according to DIN.

Course content

The PADI AOWD course consists of five theory - lessons and open water dives. The lessons scuba diving (30 m) and underwater navigation are required. The remaining three theory lessons and dives can be chosen from a range of specialties ( Specialties), eg:

Requirements

Prerequisite for a AOWD course is the OWD or equivalent certification and diving practice that does not too long ago. A recent diving efficiency certificate is mandatory in most countries and by many diving organizations. Immersion students who want to attend a PADI AOWD course must be at least 15 years old. For SSI 24 dives are required as a condition. A PADI Junior AOWD course can be visited from 12 years old. Except for a low restriction to 21 m, these children diving courses differ only by a child-friendly teaching the same content of the adult courses.
