AEK Larnaca B.C.

AEK Larnaca BC (Greek: ΑΕΚ Λάρνακας ) is the basketball team of the Cypriot sports club AEK Larnaca Larnaka.

History

The rest of the club, as well as the basketball team was founded in 1994 by the merger of two teams from Larnaca.

The predecessor clubs

Pezoporikos Larnaca

The sports club Pezoporikos Larnaca ( Greek: Πεζοπορικός Λάρνακας ) was founded in 1927 and introduced successful teams in the sports of football, volleyball and basketball. The basketball team won nine titles, including four championships and five Cypriot Cypriot Cup victories. The most successful period for the club was in the early '90s until the dissolution in 1994, when Pezoporikos dominated the Cypriot basketball and in that time won the league three times. In the European Cup, the team was represented four times. In Europe Champions Cup, it failed in the 1991/92 season in the first round of Virtus Bologna, a season later, was again in the first round deadline. This time they lost PAOK Thessaloniki. In addition, the team launched twice a Korac Cup, where they also failed early.

EPA Larnaca

EPA Larnaca ( Greek: Ένωσις Πεζοπορικού ) was founded in 1930 and placed in the same sports teams as Pezoporikos. While the football team was champion three times, the basketball team was far unsuccessful and did not win a title.

Fusion to AEK Larnaca

1994 Pezoporikos and EPA joined forces for AEK Larnaca. By winning the title of Pezoporikos in the 1993/94 season AEK took part in the following season on the national champion trophy, failed there in the 2nd round at FC Barcelona. This was followed by adult years in the National League. 1996 and 2002 yet was followed by two participations in the Korac Cup, where the team was eliminated early again. After a crash in the second division to AEK rehabilitated again in 2012 and was already of the favorites to win the title, which was however missed. In the 2012/13 season the team then managed to win the championship. The final series against the ten -time champions APOEL Nicosia was won 3-1.

The club plays its home matches at the 3,000 comprehensive courses Kition Athletic Center.
