AEK Larnaca F.C.

AEK Larnaca is a Cypriot sports club from Larnaca. The resulting 1994 from the merger of EPA and Pezoporikos club is best known for its football, volleyball and basketball teams.

History

AEK Larnaca founded in 1930 under the name of EPA Larnaca. After completion of the interruption of operation due to the Sports World War II in 1944, the football team was one of the dominant teams of Cyprus. As early as the start of the season after the war interruption, she won the double in national championship and trophy, which she defended in the following year. First, the club remained in the front league field, but was ousted by clubs like APOEL Nicosia, Anorthosis Famagusta or AEL Limassol top of the table. For a long time played EPA and Pezoporikos with varying success in the first Cypriot league, without being able to win more titles. 1970, provided the local rivals Omonia Nicosia with a three-way battle for the championship. Ultimately, the goal difference at the tied rival ruled in favor of EPA. In Europe Champions Cup 1970/71 the team met in the first round of the German representatives Borussia Moenchengladbach and retired after a 0-6 home and away defeat from a 12:10. Towards the later quarter-finalists IFK Gothenburg failed the club in the first round of the European Champions' Cup 1988/89.

In 1994, EPA and Pezoporikos banded together and formed the AEK Larnaca. After a mixed first season, the club sat firmly in the upper middle of the league. 1996 reached the fusion club the cup final, but lost that went against the champions APOEL Nicosia after extra time.
