Aerodynamic Park

The Aerodynamic Park is located in the northwest of the university district of Humboldt University on the Campus Berlin -Adlershof. He is part of a series of squares and open spaces. It is named this small park ( landscape design by the office Thomanek and Duquesnoy ) by three peculiar architectures: The Trudel Tower, the Silenced engine test bench and the large wind tunnel. The monuments were built during the 1920s and 1930s as part of the time at the airport Johannisthal settled German Experimental Institute for Aviation. As evidence of an outstanding scientific tradition in Adlershof, with the first airport in Germany (up to 1952 in operation as airfield ) began in 1909, established in 1912 with the mentioned experimental station, they are extraordinary industrial heritage with unique sculptural qualities.

Trudel tower and silenced engine test bench are in central positions on the court, the large wind tunnel distinguishes it from the southeast. In the southwest behind the hazardous material storage is the engine altitude test. The Monuments characterize the town. They are unusual and reduced to their functional building with high sculptural force. For the Park 2006, the permanent sound installation AIR BORNE ( was created (a project of the artist Stefan Krüskemper, composed of composer Karlheinz Essl ), which refers to the history of the aerodynamic park and using authentic sounds from the German Broadcasting Archive in Potsdam- Babelsberg before Berlin -Adlershof ) used as starting materials.

The clear spatial- architectural version of the square was made in recent years by a number of outstanding new buildings with university use. To the west, north adjacent to the hazardous material storage (architect Benedict Tonon ), the Institute of Chemistry at the northern square edge is the auditorium building ( architect Volker Staab Alfred Nieuwenhuizen ) and east beyond the Newton road through the Institute of Physics ( architect Georg Augustin and Ute Frank ) formed.
