Mexico City

Aeroméxico is the largest Mexican airline based in Mexico City and based on the local Benito Juárez International Airport. She is a member of the airline alliance SkyTeam.

History

Aeroméxico was founded on September 1, 1934 under the name Aeronaves de México. The maiden flight took from Mexico City to Acapulco.

From 1952 to 1962 bought Aeronaves Aerovias de Mexico Reforma SA, Aerolineas Mexicanas SA and eventually Guest Aerovias Mexico, who graduated from London transatlantic flights on. In July 1959 Aeronaves de México of the Mexican government and a Pan-American holding company was nationalized. The first international flight was conducted from Mexico City to New York City with a Britannia 302. This route later took over a Douglas DC -8.

In February 1972, Aeronaves de México was renamed to Aeroméxico. Also in February 1972, the domestic flight system was nationalized. It consisted of eight smaller companies that stood on the guide Aeronaves de México.

On 7 October 2003 Aeroméxico received its first Boeing 737-700, on August 16, 2013 its first Boeing 787-8.

Destinations

Aeromexico offers a variety of national associations such as Acapulco, Guadalajara, Mazatlan or Tijuana. International connections are made in the principal countries of the Americas, especially in the United States. In addition, some intercontinental long-haul destinations such as Tokyo, Paris and Madrid are served.

Incidents

  • On August 31, 1986, a Piper PA-28 collided in the air due to a pilot error with Aeroméxico Flight 498 In the resulting crash, all 67 people were killed in two machines as well as 15 people on the ground.
  • Mid-March 2011 reported various German media that the pilot of a flight from Costa Rica to Mexico were alcohol-related not allowed on board. About 100 passengers had to wait for the onward journey 24 hours. In the same week drunken pilots of another Airlines flight after landing had fled security forces.
