Aeronautical fixed service

The Aeronautical Fixed Radio Service ( English aeronautical fixed service ) is an obsolete term for a radio service between fixed points, which is to serve primarily the safety of air navigation and the regular, efficient and economical operation of air transport.

The radio applications in question are present according to the current definition of the Radio Regulations Radio Regulations ( Radio Regulations ) of the International Telecommunication Union ( ITU) allocated to the fixed radio service. In the field of aviation and the airlines, however, the term continues to be used as a collective designation of certain communications services. Thus, the following voice and data networks are currently being provided, for example, under this name:

  • Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network ( AFTN )
  • Common ICAO Data Interchange Network ( CIDIN )
  • Air Traffic Services ( ATS) Message Handling System ( AMHS )

In contrast to the aeronautical mobile service company in this radio service no radio stations on board aircraft part.

Messages that are exchanged via AFTN or AMHS, for example, NOTAMs, flight schedules and meteorological data (eg METARs ). This radio service is still an important communication service provider for the air traffic control Air Traffic Control ( ATC), flight information service ( Flight Information Service, FIS ) and aeronautical information service ( Aeronautical Information Service, AIS).
