Æscwine of Essex

Aescwine (also Æscvvine ) ( † about 587 ) was probably of about 527-587 the first king of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Essex. Whether he was actually king is unsecured.

After a genealogy from the late 9th century was his father Offa of Essex. He married his son Sledda with Ricola, a daughter of King Eormenric of Kent. Probably Aescwine stood in a dependent relationship with Eormenric. After his death around 587 Sledda became his successor.
