Æthelberht of Wessex

Aethelberht King of Wessex and Kent (c. 835, † 865) was a son of Æthelwulf. After the death of his father, a division of the kingdom of Wessex and the conquered kingdom between his sons Aethelwulf took place, where Aethelberht Kent was transferred. 860 he succeeded his brother King Aethelbald after and like his father and his brother in Kingston upon Thames was crowned. During his reign, Ragnar Lodbrok Kent and Northumbria plundered. In Æthelberhts earlier reign they came even to Winchester. Aethelberht 865 died after five years of reign, and was buried in Sherborne Abbey in Dorset.
