Aethes shakibai

Aethes Shakibai is ( Tortricidae ) is a butterfly of the family of the winder. The species was first described in 2004 based on 2001 the collected material. Within the genus Aethes it is quite isolated. The species was named after Ing Mahmood Shakiba, in Gorgan, Iran.

Features

The imago has a forewing length of 4.5 to 4.8 millimeters. The wingspan is about 9.9 to 10.6 millimeters. The females are slightly larger than males. The labial palps are rust-colored, the middle term is broad and light cream color, the end link is very short. The antennae are ciliated and brown slightly in the male. Head, thorax and tegulae are rust brown in color with variable creamy mottling. In particular, the head of the female, and the distal parts of the tegulae are predominantly creamy. The abdomen is gray above, below white to cream. The fore wings are narrow, the Costa weakly convex. The ground color of the fore wings is brown with darker ocher, rust- brown color on the Costa basis and with equal binding Media. The distal half of the wing is mostly rusty brown spotted and speckled. There are several white- creamy Costa spots available. The hind wings and the fringes are silvery gray. The males have fewer or more cream colored drawing elements and are therefore darker than the females.

MALE

The caterpillars and their food plants are unknown.

Occurrence

The species is so far known only from the type locality, the Miankaleh Peninsula on the Caspian Sea ( northern Iran ). Potential habitats are located on the Caspian Sea and in halophytisch embossed continental biotopes.
