AFC Championship Game
The AFC Championship Game is one of the two semi-finals of the National Football League ( NFL). Until 1970 was the AFC Championship Game AFL Championship Game, as the Established in 1959, the American Football League ( AFL) and the NFL were two separate and competing American football leagues at this time. The AFL Championship Game was thus the final of the AFL. With the merger of the AFL and NFL were two Conferences, the AFC and National Football Conference (NFC ), founded with 13 teams. The AFC contained the ten teams of the former AFL. Three teams that had belonged before the merger of the NFL, were transferred to the AFC to form two equal Conferences. These were the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Colts and the Cleveland Browns. The remaining 13 teams in the old NFL formed the NFC.
