Affoltern im Emmental ( in local dialect: [af ː ˌ ɔɯ̯təɾə ( in æm ː ɪ ˌ tɑʊ̯ ) ] ) is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Name

The place name is in 1244 as an indication of origin of a gentleman testified Wernherus nobilis de Affoltrei; the older documents ( 1146 Hesso de Affoltron; 1216 Peter de villicus Affoltron ) could also refer to the United Affoltern. The name comes from the dative lokativisch used pluralis OHG * afoltrun, ( at the ) apple trees' back.
