AfPak

The portmanteau word AfPak referred to a common crisis region of Afghanistan and Pakistan, because in both countries rages an armed conflict between the respective governments and the Taliban and Al Qaeda militants.

The AfPak strategy is developed in March 2009 under the U.S. President Obama strategy to stabilize Afghanistan with the inclusion of all the neighboring countries and regional powers. The term AfPak comes in all probability from Richard Holbrooke, Obama's special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

According to critics, both in Afghanistan and in Pakistan, the term forcing two states that have a complicated relationship to each other and different problems in empty words.
