Africa University is a private, pan-African and United Methodist institution in Zimbabwe. It has more than 1,200 students from 16 African countries and the rest of the world. About 17 kilometers from the center Mutares, it grants both Bachelor and Master degrees in various disciplines.

History

Has initiated the development of establishing university of the Evangelical Methodist Church in the United States of America. In 1988 the United Methodist General Conference approved the plans to build its own university in Africa. Leading involved was because Rev. Roger Ireson, director of the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry ( German about: United Methodist Main Committee for Higher Education and clergy )

The Africa University opened in March 1992 as the first private international university in Zimbabwe and its gates. The first forty students came from twelve African countries to take studies in agricultural sciences, commodity science and theology. Your first Vice Chancellor was Rev. John Wesley Zwomunondiita Kurewa. This had already been actively involved since 1989 in the course of the planning phase prior to the founding of the university to develop and led the college until his resignation in December 1997.

Line structure

To guide the University, there is a 30 - member body, which the Chancellor in the function of Chairman of the Board of Directors ( German as: Chairman of the Board ) projects. This function is performed by Bishop David Kekumba Yemba.

The active management of the University is the responsibility of the Vice Chancellors, whose role corresponds to that of the German university rector. The present incumbent, Fanuel Tagwira previously worked in the Ministry of Agriculture of Zimbabwe and knew it in 10 years, the functions of the Principal Research Officer ( German about: a senior official for Research) and the Head of Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition ( German as: Area Manager for soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition ).
