African American Civil War Memorial

The African American Civil War Memorial on the corner of Vermont Avenue and U Street Corridor in Washington, DC commemorates the 209 145 African-American soldiers and sailors who fought on the Union side in the Civil War. The memorial is located at the eastern entrance to the U St / African- Amer Civil War Memorial / Cardozo Metro station.

The memorial was designed by the African American Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation and Museum and transferred on 27 October 2004 to the National Park Service. The museum, which is located two blocks west of the monument in the historic U Street neighborhood, is open to the public since January 1999. His mission is visitors, researchers and descendants of the United States Colored Troops to make the story about the struggle for freedom better understood.
