African Darter

The African Darter (Anhinga rufa ) is a species of bird in the genus of darters. He was formerly considered a subspecies of the Old World snake neck bird, but is recognized as a distinct species since 2005. Its habitat is wetlands in sub-Saharan Africa.

Full grown reaches the African Darter a body length of about 79 centimeters.

It feeds on fish, frogs and shellfish.

During the hunt, one sees only look head out of the water. His long neck is folded beneath the surface to impale its prey. After the hunt he dries himself by sitting with outstretched wings in the sun.
