Africando

Africando Salsa is a project of New York, which was initiated in 1990 by the Ivorian Ibrahim Sylla and the Malians Boncana Maiga together with other musicians. The name means in the language of Wolof Vereintes Africa.

The idea behind Africando was to connect the West African popular salsa with Senegalese singing. Members were, among others, the ex- member of the Star Band Pape Seck, Nicholas Menheim, who worked with Youssou N'Dour, and the Orchestre Baobab Medoune Diallo.

For the later albums known African musicians like Tabu Ley Rochereau, Koffi Olomidé, Salif Keïta, Sékouba Bambino, Amadou Seck Balaké and Thionne were committed and you acted now on as Africando All Stars. During the first albums classic Latin American songs included sung mainly in Wolof, is Africando later concentrated on African songs they sided with salsa rhythms. Both versions were equally successful.
