Afroedura

Afroedura is a genus of Squamata from the family of geckos ( Gekkonidae ).

Features

The animals are characterized by an extremely flat physique. The body is more than 10 mm even with the largest type Afroedura hawaquensis is high at any point. Larger species of this genus can reach a total length of up to 14 cm. The animals are usually gray or brown in color, sometimes with dark cross bands. Since the suckers which have on their feet a great match of the Australian genus Oedura, the species of the genus Afroedura were previously assigned to this genus.

Dissemination and lifestyle

The range of this species extends from southern Africa north to Angola. The animals are nocturnal rock inhabitants of the dry savannah and feed on insects. During the day they hide in crevices in which the eggs are deposited.
