Afton

Afton, Afton Water also is the name of a river in the Scottish county of Ayrshire. The water body is known primarily for the poem Sweet Afton by Robert Burns, who came from this area. Coupled with an earlier Scottish tune was the poem to an equally widespread folk song ( in this case, often under the title Flow Gently, Sweet Afton, after the first words of the text ).

Due to the popularity of poetry and song, the name Afton was connoted with " heimatlicher idyll " and in this way to the popular toponym newly established settlements in the United States. These include
