Features

Occurrence

He is a sedentary bird and comes from Central America to Brazil and Peru before. It inhabits water-rich forests and wooded swamps. However, it is rare in its area of ​​distribution.

Behavior

The spear heron breeds from June to September in some quite large colonies, often in the company of Kahn beaks. Its nest is made of twigs and branches, and is built in water nearby trees. The female usually lays two eggs of a bluish color. The rest of the year he behaves but shy and solitary. It hunts for fish in shallow water, but he disdains not also amphibians, small reptiles and mollusks.
