Agamyxis

Comb catfish ( Agamyxis pectinifrons )

Agamyxis is a genus of fish from the family of catfishes ( Doradidae ). The genus contains albomaculatus two very similar species, known from the Aquaristik comb catfish ( Agamyxis pectinifrons ) and Agamyxis. Agamyxis albomaculatus is distributed in the Orinoco basin in Venezuela, while Agamyxis pectinifrons is found in the Amazon basin.

Features

Both species reach a height of about 15 cm. Characteristic is the squat, rounded body, the broad, slightly flattened head and a relatively short, up and down with bone plates armored caudal peduncle. The caudal fin is slightly rounded, the short dorsal fin high and triangular. My sting ray is serrated on its front edge and sides. The adipose fin is shorter than the anal fin. The scutes on the caudal peduncle Agamyxis differ from the closely related genus Acanthodoras.
