Agarn

Agarn ( in local dialect: Agaru [Ag ˌ a ɾŭ ː ] ) is a municipality in the district of Leuk in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

History

The first mention of the place from the year 1229 testifies apud aer quinque casamenta in Agarn five buildings '. The name that will appear in 1252 and 1272 as Aert, 1267 as magnifies and 1391 as a transient, should ' go back to Celtic * akarno, (mountain) maple.

Agarn 1799 was completely destroyed by the French and burned in March 1899 from almost entirely.
