Agathenburg

Agathenburg ( Low German Gothe Borg ) is a municipality in the district of Stade in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

History

In the village of Lieth acquired in 1652 by the Swedish Governor General Hans Christoph von Königsmarck, governor of the Duchy of Bremen and Verden, an older property and built a country castle, which he named after his wife Agathe von Lehsten Castle Agathenburg. The village Lieth wore since that name.

The Königsmarck come from the same village in the Altmark, the title of Count Hans Christoph received by Queen Christina of Sweden. He was the grandfather of the well-known because of its relations with the Princess Sophie Dorothea of Brunswick- Lüneburg Count Philipp Christoph von Königsmarck and the Countess Aurora of Königsmarck, the favorite of King August the Strong of Poland and Elector of Saxony. This has spent in Agathenburg, where they often came from Stade as a child and wife for many days before her mother moved to Sweden in 1680.

Traffic

Agathenburg is just off the federal highway 73, which runs between Hamburg and Cuxhaven.

The Lower Elbe from Cuxhaven to Hamburg railway runs through the town. The breakpoint is served by the S- Bahn Hamburg.

In addition, the bike path in Hamburg- Cuxhaven and the North Sea Cycle Route runs through the community.
