Agatsuma Line

The Agatsuma Line (Japanese吾 妻 线, Agatsuma- sen) is a Japanese railway line which runs between the stations and Shibukawa Omae in Gunma prefecture. The route will be operated by the East Japan Railway Company and is 55.6 km long.

History

The Agatsuma Line was originally in 1945 for the removal of ore from the mines in the Gunma Prefecture as a private freight railway route of Nippon Kokan KK opened. The first section, which was put into operation, running between the stations Shibukawa and Naganohara. Consequently, the line initially carried the name Naganohara- line. From 1946, a passenger was gradually put into operation.

In 1954, the route to the national railway company of Japan was transferred, the operating passenger services from 1954. In 1963, the last ore mines in Gunma. Consequently, the freight was discontinued in 1966.

In 1971, the extension of the line of Naganohara was opened after Omae. The line was renamed for the occasion to Agatsuma Line.

The last station, which was opened, the station was Onogami - Onsen in 1992. The track is now famous and popular for the variety of adherence to well-known onsen baths.
