Murpheyi Agave is a plant of the genus Agave ( Agave ). An English common name is " Murpheyi 's Agave ".

Description

Agave murpheyi is monokarpisch. It forms compact rosettes the abundant sprouts. The plant height ranges from 60 to 80 cm with a diameter up to 100 cm. The linear, arranged variable, light yellow -green to bluish, slightly quergebänderten, pointed leaves are 50 to 65 cm long and 6-8 cm wide. It makes clear imprints of the bud. The wavy leaf margins are toothed. The dark brown Enddorn is 1.2 to 2 cm long.

The Rispige inflorescence is 3 to 4 m high. The waxy light green to purple flowers are 65-75 mm long and appear at the top of the inflorescence to variably arranged branches. They rarely produces seeds, but after flowering bulbils on the inflorescence. The cup-shaped flower tube is 16 to 20 mm long.

The egg-shaped to oblong capsule dreikammerigen fruits are long and 2 to 2.5 cm wide by 5-6 cm.

Systematics and distribution

Agave murpheyi is common in the southwestern United States in Arizona and Mexico in the state of Sonora in different soil formations on rocky slopes in desert regions in 450-950 m height. It is associated with numerous species of succulents and cacti.

The first description by Frederick Gibson has been published in 1935.

Agave murpheyi is a representative of the section Ditepalae. It forms small rosettes with short, broad leaves and is similar in the juvenile stage Agave chrysantha. The species seems to be associated in part with old dwellings of indigenous ethnic groups. You hybridized with Agave chrysantha. Agave murpheyi is cultivated in Huntington Botanic Garden in San Marino, California.
