Agave nizandensis

Nizandensis Agave is a plant of the genus Agave ( Agave ). An English common name are " Nizanda " and " Dwarf Mexican Agave ".

Description

Agave nizandensis grows solitary or forming small groups with a height up to 30 cm and a diameter up to 40 cm. The linear to lance- shaped, brittle, bendable, located variable, green striped leaves are 20-30 cm long and 1.5 to 2.5 cm wide. The leaf margins are irregularly finely serrated. The conical reddish Enddorn is long and 0.8 cm.

The spike-like inflorescence is 1 to 2 m high. The light yellow to green flowers are 35-40 mm long and appear in short-stalked clusters to two to five flowers on the upper part of the inflorescence. The kurztrichterige flower tube is 3-4 mm long.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Systematics and distribution

Agave nizandensis growing endemic in Mexico in the state of Oaxaca on rocky slopes.

The first description by Ladislaus Cutak has been published in 1951.

Agave nizandensis is a representative of the section Nizandensae. It is endangered, extremely rare and only a few small colonies growing in a geographically isolated area in Nizanda and environment. The species is no close relatives within the agaves. Ullrich asked for them therefore to the section Nizandensae.
