Agave schottii

Schottii Agave is a plant of the genus Agave ( Agave ). An English common name is " Schott's Agave ".

Description

Agave schottii formed small dense rosettes. The narrow, linealischen, flexible, variably arranged, light yellow-green, pointed leaves are 25 to 40 cm long and 0.7 to 1.2 cm wide. The fibrous leaf edges form a brown edge. The gray Enddorn is 0.8 to 1.2 cm long.

The eared, slender, curved inflorescence is 1.8 to 2.5 m high. The bright yellow flowers are 30-40 mm long and appear on strong stems in 1 to 3 flowers on the inflorescence arranged variable. The deep trichterige flower tube is 9-14 mm long.

The round -shaped to pointed dreikammerigen capsule fruits are 1-2 cm long. The black, variably shaped seeds are 3 to 3.5 mm long.

The flowering period lasts from April to August.

Systematics and distribution

Schottii Agave grows in Arizona and New Mexico in the United States and in Mexico in Sonora and Chihuahua and on stony slopes in grass and woodland to 900 m altitude. It is associated typically with numerous cacti and succulents.

The first description by George Engelmann was published in 1875 .. Synonyms are Agave geminiflora var sonorae Trel. , Agave schottii var serrulataMulford. , Agave schottii var atricha Trel.

Agave schottii is a representative of the section Parviflorae which includes the smallest species of the genus with. Typical are the long, narrow leaves. The species is similar felgeri Agave, but differences in flower structure significantly. Agave schottii is cultivated in the Desert Botanic Garden in Arizona.
