Agave shrevei

Shrevei Agave is a plant of the genus Agave ( Agave ). An English common name is "Century Plant".

Description

Agave shrevei growing singly or forming groups. The gray to bluish, ovate to lanceolate, pointed leaves are 50 to 60 cm long and 12-18 cm wide. The different arrangements of wart-like leaf margins are irregularly toothed. The acute, brown to gray Enddorn is 2.5 to 5 cm long.

The Rispige, straight to curved strong inflorescence is 2.5 to 5 m high. The light green to light yellow flowers are 50-70 mm long, appear at the top of the inflorescence and form of loosely arranged branching variable. The broadly cylindrical to bowl-shaped flower tube is 18 to 23 mm long.

The elongated capsule dreikammerigen brown fruits are 45-70 mm long and 15-25 mm wide. The black seeds are 6 to 7 mm in length and 4.5 to 5 mm wide.

Systematics and distribution

Agave is shrevei used in Mexico in the states of Chihuahua and Sonora states of rocky Kalkhängen and woodlands in 930-1980 m altitude. It is associated with Dasylirion spec. and Nolina spec.

The first description by Gentry has been published in 1942.

We distinguish the following sub- types:

  • Agave shrevei subsp. shrevei
  • Agave shrevei subsp. magna
  • Agave shrevei subsp. matapensis

Agave shrevei is a member of the group Ditepalae and grows widely in colonies in Central Mexico. The subspecies shrevei, magna and matapensis differ in size, leaf and flower structure. Agave is shrevei morphologically and geographically closely related to Agave colorata ( Gentry 1982, p 431). In the northern area of ​​distribution hybrids between Agave shrevei x Agave palmeri are known.
